Ben Wheatley’s newest incredibly dark satire is a no holds barred commentary on the consequences of useless gun violence in films. It holds up much better in comparison to his more nihilistic approach to modernity in High-Rise (2015), instead seeming rather sobering than actively hopeless and futile. Spoilers to follow.
In an explosive comeback, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 reunites everyone’s favourite “a-holes”, crass and vicious as ever – perhaps even more so. Amped up by intensely vibrant, gorgeous cinematography and possibly an even better soundtrack, it’s a wonderful introduction to 2017’s superhero season.

Marc Webb continues to prove his directorial prowess in his foray into the family drama genre. His signature wit, coupled with riveting performances by an all-star cast, hits all the notes we’re expecting from a film like Gifted. It is also undeniably genuine at its core; moving in a very real way. Spoilers ahead.
